UPDATE REGARDING IMPACT FROM GAF SITE

Packanack Lake Members:

PLCA is aware of the increased flow of runoff materials into the lake at the fingers since the GAF site was cleared in preparation for construction. The Board has been in contact with our councilman and Mayor Vergano. The Township sent their engineers out to check on the GAF site. We have requested the Township’s urgent attention to the current situation, enforcement of environmental regulations, including contacting the NJDEP for further enforcement if warranted. We also requested that the Township communicate any findings, actions, and associated timelines to PLCA immediately.

In the meantime, our lake management company TIGRIS is performing their normal water testing and monitoring the lake for any changes. We are awaiting the results of the most recent water tests. In addition, PLCA began the weekly beach area water testing required by the Wayne Health Department, in preparation for opening the beaches. Those test results are normal.

We will send out updates when more information is available.

  1. Thanks to the board for their attention to this vitally important matter. As many have noted, there seems to have been a dramatic increase in sediment entering the lake lately. After one recent storm the water near the peninsula (especially the east finger) was far muddier than I have ever seen it in my 65 years at the lake.
